The Pôle Universitaire Européen de Montpellier et du Languedoc-Roussillon is a public institution founded in 1994 under the authority of the French Ministry of Education with the aim of ensuring maximum European and international visibility to the 24 "University and research organizations of Montpellier". It is a public-founded organization which includes the three Montpellier Universities (Montpellier 1, Montpellier 2, and Montpellier 3), local and regional public authorities, 9 "Grandes Ecoles", the Agropolis consortium of research organisations and graduate schools in agronomy, agricultural sciences and development.
The Pole's main objectives and lines of action are:

to promote and to foster European and international cooperation for and with the Montpellier universities and research organisations;

to contribute to European project preparation and management, bringing in Montpellier universities and research organisations;

to develop the Montpellier "open University" (Université Ouverte Montpellier Languedoc Roussillon) created in 2001 with the 24 universities and research organizations of the Montpellier region;

to promote the use of ICT in training and research, to contribute to national and European normalization bodies in the field (the Pole has signed the European MoU);
-
to promote and organize Europe-wide scientific events with the partner Universities;
-
to foster graduate students' employability.
